In Texas, football is more than a sport. There is something about a team of players that brings people together in unity, support, and loyalty. The East Texas Baptist University football program exemplifies these qualities. We recently finished construction of the synthetic turf field at Ornelas Stadium and their story is still close to our hearts.

When we began working with ETBU, we learned that their school had lost two incredible football players in a tragic drowning accident in 2016. One lost his life trying to save the other.

To honor the two football players, Darrian “D.J.” McClintock, Jr., and Norvontre “Tre” Harrison, Dr. Blackburn, President of ETBU, asked us to partner with ETBU to create a special edition Genesis product– “Genesis 4:9.” The new turf has a 49-oz. face-weight and includes a logo with “Genesis 4:9, I Am My Brother’s Keeper,” installed on the ETBU sideline.

Additionally, the school is raising money to install “two life size statues of DJ and Tre that will sit at the top of Ornelas Stadium,” Blackburn said. “The two statues will be arm-in-arm. They met Jesus arm-in-arm, and they will watch over their brothers on the field, arm-in-arm.” (Source).

It was an honor to work with a university like ETBU not only because they are “a leader in Christian higher education…[but] this job is very personal to us” (Source). Their actions match their values and we couldn’t be more humbled by their compassion and generosity.

Symmetry Sports cares about people and their stories, so we strive to be intentional and hard working with every job we take. From beginning to end, we are here to serve and support you throughout the entire process.

We are excited to continue working with ETBU as we begin installing new synthetic turf for their baseball team! If you have any questions about the ETBU synthetic turf installation for their football field, give us a call and check out more info here!
